WEEK 5
Out of all workshops I have done so far, this was definitely my favourite due to the hands on creativity that was produced. This workshop was all about creating an editorial for a magazine, we was told it should be a creative magazine and not just a standard fashion publication. After being given a few options of magazines we could choose, Beauty Papers was selected. This is due to how the beauty industry is growing and overlapping into the fashion industry. Looking at a previous magazine that they have produced, they were all about different ways of being beautiful and not your every day typical beauty. That gave us the quirky idea of deforming the face with our hands to change its shape.
Firstly, we wanted to look at the contributors, models and theme. This was to help us really establish what we wanted from the shoot taking place in the afternoon. The contributors consisted of artists, photographers and stylists that have worked for Beauty Papers before. After looking at a few editorials, we got the trend of what models they use. We gathered three models that we would ideally want to use for the shoot, all natural and plain beauty’s. To really define our concept, we created a story line. Katie Hopkins thought of the idea when people play with your face e.g. your grandma. Thats where the quote ‘Dear Grandma, stop pinching my face and forcing me to smile. It doesn't make me feel pretty. Yours Beatrice’. This gives off a vintage approach with the letter style script.
During the shoot, Katie Hopkins modelled and Jessica May photographed whilst I directed and helped Katie and Jess with ideas on what to do and what angles to shoot from. After the shoot, I edited the photos to give them a warmer tone to make them look more vintage and also manipulated the photos more by scrunching up the paper to deform the page and face even further. We then scanned them in to form a final outcome, a zine. The feedback we got from this was very positive and has been put up around the university building.
Linking towards the assessment centre, this week I have completed my leaflet ready for the presentation on the Monday 29th October. I feel very confident as I have created flash cards and created a unique leaflet that will hopefully stand out. I am very nervous about messing up but if I keep rehearsing my flash cards then I think I will manage.
