WEEK 3
After just submitting my application form for the assessment centre and feeling confident about it, I felt like I could really concentrate on the workshop. This weeks workshop for my group was branding. We was put into small groups of 3 or 4 and randomly given a famous person. We was told we had to create that person into a brand. This could be creating a brand that is all about them or organising a fashion event. My group got Professor Brian Cox, a famous physicist. When we realised we got him, we all didn’t even know who he was so a serious research was in order. For initial idea, we really struggled as we didn't know how we could apply a scientist into fashion. Our first idea was to create an event for children at the Event City, Manchester. This would be a multi activity day were there are science activities all around and a talk with Brian Cox himself. To relate it to fashion we would have a stall of his own merchandise that would be for sale. Finally, a competition of who can design the best space t-shirt, whoever wins gets to have them made and they will be his next merchandise.
After more thinking, we didn't like this idea and wanted to change. So our next and final idea was to do a collaboration with an already existing brand. We chose Vans as vans is known to have a similar customer base as Cox and Vans have done collaborations like this before with Disney for example. We created a plan which was to have a space theme collection with a range of their classic trainers. Also, hold an event at a have a skatepark dedicated to him in Oldham, Manchester where he was brought up.
From this branding workshop I really wanted to create a logo for something. I realised that I work for a social media company called Manchester Style Showcase. At the time, their logo wasn't the most professional. I went away and redesigned their logo to give them an updated and fresh look for the page, the director approved and now it is on their site.
