WEEK 1
The first week of the six week experience workshop. As the course has been scheduled into different groups to try out different workshops every week, my group landed on moving image for the first. The task we was given was to produce a 20 second film for a Missguided advert. My first instinct was to look at a few videos that Missguided have created. I established that they were all very short clips and different angles with a fast pace feel to it. On top of that, the music is always a female singer with a positive vibe.
After looking at our clothing options, we chose what kind of shoot we was going to do. We all had quite AW looks with sweaters and oversized denim jackets. From this, we decided to create an Urban video as Missguided like to promote sassy and powerful young women and focusing on urban will help us portray that. This gave us the idea to use the walkways on Mancunian Way as its made up of grey concrete and covered in graffiti. The group was provided with gimbals for phones, a digital camera and a tripod. Once we set up, we thought of different shots to make sure we get the location in too. As we wanted the customer to engage in this film, we wanted to make it more personal. By doing that, we had the models (myself and Sinead Jordan) to take the camera themselves and video in a selfie like style. This created a different angle too, to create more variation.
After getting all the shots, we had to do the hardest part. The editing. Before that though, as its only supposed to be a 20 second piece we needed to narrow down what we wanted to put in it. We managed to do this by looking at angles and outfits, making sure we get a wide contrast as the clips are short meaning we will need quite a few. To edit, we used Final Cut Pro, at first it looked very difficult but once explained we started to get the hang of it by putting a clip in and using effects it all started to come together. I made sure we had a good enough logo to put over the film as every promotional video that they have done always starts with their logo. Choosing music we used Be Your Girl by Teedra Moses. This was due to how up beat it was and how fast we wanted to film to go. They both went hand in hand for each other.
Gimble - was probably the best tool we used as it catches more movement
Camera - the shots took on here weren't as good due to it being too shaky and when using a tripod we couldn't follow the models or move the camera whilst filming.
Overall, I feel like the team did a great job at producing what we did within just a few hours. However, for the next moving image we create I feel we should give more time towards the editing as its very time consuming moving things around and getting the right timing. Other than that, the video captures just what we wanted it to do and definitely has the Missguided vibe due to all the factors we looked at.
