LECTURES
I was scheduled two lectures with Jo, one about CV reflection and the other on self-employment. This is to help us delve into the industry with confidence by showing us the opportunities we can take to help us move forward.
The first lecture was all about reflecting upon and reviewing your draft CV. She told us all of the support MMU give us in relation to this such as the CV builder on Moodle. I logged into this and learned different skills that I have and should apply into my CV.
She mentioned how important it is to have a critical view on your CV and gave examples of how to do such as looking at job roles and then comparing it to your CV… does it match? Moving on, she shown us different websites to look at e.g Drapers and Indeed. After the lecture, I looked on these to see if there are any that interest me and thats when I found the converse communications one
After looking more into the role, I feel the responsibilities suit me yet the brand doesn’t. From this i have leant I want go further into the communications category, so I will carry on my search for this.
For the other lecture about self employment, Jo made me aware of how many freelance jobs there are available out there. This has made me think of applying for some to gain experience whilst at uni to help with adding more experience on my CV. From this lecture, I have set up my own account on Peopleperhour, a website were people promote there freelance work in hope for someone to offer them work. I hope to gain more experience from this and am looking forward to researching into these opportunities I didn't know about before.
Overall, from these lectures it made me think about reflecting on my portfolio and if everything links as a brand and am I promoting myself in the way I want to be. I changed a few things around tho make sure my pages are consistent to then help the viewer to understand my website and are less likely to miss pages off.
